COVID

Dear Parent(s),

It is our priority at Optimal Schools to maintain a healthy and safe environment for all students and staff. Following the mandate of Governor Newsom we will be moving forward with a virtual online learning format for our Kindergarten-8th grade departments at the start of the school term on September 8th. This format will be in place until the County of Los Angeles meets the requirements set forth by the Governor,14 days of a consecutive decline in cases, signaling that the area would be removed from the state’s watch list. At that time, parents will be able to choose to remain online for the remainder of the school term or to switch to the hybrid learning format that will include on campus instruction.

During this time, students will be meeting with teachers via the Google Classroom platform where they will receive instruction in all subject areas through LIVE meetings.Similar to a regular school day, students will have specific class times and be required to attend their virtual online classroom Monday-Friday. Students will also have times of asynchronous learning where they complete assignments on their own or collaborate with each other without the teacher. A detailed schedule will be provided to you by your child’s teacher closer to the start of the school year. We encourage parents to begin purchasing your books and registering for the upcoming school term as soon as possible.

Furthermore, we are pursuing a waiver being offered to elementary schools by the California Department of Public Health that would permit on-campus, in-person education. If we are awarded this waiver we would begin on-campus learning for our elementary age students who choose in-person instruction. Updates regarding this process will be shared with families via email.

Families with children in the preschool department will be able to choose from the following options:

Virtual Learning:
A virtual school offered online with both synchronous and asynchronous learning. Parents will be able to pick up packets for their child to practice writing and other fine motor skills at the end of each week to be completed alongside the class from home. Families who choose to enroll in this program will remain in it throughout the year unless there is an opening in the on campus enrollment.

On Campus Learning
Families who choose to enroll in the on campus format will take part in the dual immersion program. The school day would look slightly different with increased measures in place to prevent sickness and ensure the safety of all students and staff. These measures will be further detailed in the coming weeks. Upon registration preschool parents will need to choose their top 3 preferred drop off times. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences giving priority to those who register sooner.

There will be a live town hall meeting where parents can ask questions and gain more insight into the plans for the fall on Saturday August 8th, 2020. Preschool parents will meet at 1p.m while K-8th parents will meet at 2p.m. A link to the live meeting will be sent prior to the event.

Information regarding your book list and student supplies can be found online at www.optimalschools.org.

Sincerely,
Meghan Shamburger
